You'd do well to investigate the many tremendous inventions made by Australians then sold off early in the process, leaving the country all the poorer for it. Better still, ATO determinations have torpedoed Australian industries because they wanted their pound of flesh immediately rather than reaping future windfalls.

I'm not in favour of predatory foreign actors (such as American organisations pretending to extend the hand of friendship only to rape and pillage us) but a lot of our failures, to my estimation at least, come down to domestic shortsightedness. We talk a big game then fail to deliver meaningful action.
