Whether or not you think the technology viable or not is a moot point.

Whether there is money to be made rationally or irrationally is the crux. I suggest you take a look at KuangChi science, and NOT from the point of whether you believe in their technologies/ethos  or not, but where they have got to with regard to investment, and who is financing it and perhaps taking a long term view.
