Size matters for ugly man of Yamba
A Balinese wood-carved sculpture with large genitals is the centre of a row between a shop owner, police, and a local council on the north-coast of New South Wales.

The 1.8 metre statue, known locally as "the ugly man", stands outside the Yamba Pawnbrokers and Second Hand Goods store.

A number of people have complained about the statue, claiming it is offensive and blocks the footpath.

The police were called in to have it removed but they say it is not within their authority.

Complaints have also been made to the Clarence Valley Council, which is currently investigating the matter.

Shop Owner, Barry Adams, says the sculpture is a work of art and people should not be so precious about it.

"It's probably a little bit bigger than the normal but what's normal? I don't know, I haven't seen that many penises," he said.

"To me it's just a piece of wood shaped in a penis."

The council will decide within the next few weeks whether "the ugly man" should go.
