With respect, isn't the deadline merely the date that the investor must ask for the redemption, and that this need hold no relevance to when the stocks must be sold?
In truth, the hedge fund may well have been selling stock and have more than enough cash to pay back the investor.
Alternatively, the hedge fund may request a period of time over which it will complete any trades before returning the funds to the investor (ie there would be no need to dump stock on any given day or over a very short term).
Just my understanding, fwiw
