With respect, Dub, this has a lot to do with moderating...

You said you suspended Volt for 30 days...then on further reflection, you thought that was too lenient and you increased it to 60 days, correct?

It is the duration of the suspension which is causing most of the angst.

This morning (6am Qld) I saw the post and was quite surprised that anyone, let alone a popular member of many years' standing, would type/post such an attack.

I suspended Voltaire, initially for 30 days, with -

Reason to user : blatantly insulting HC admin staff. As the earlier moderator said, you might be better served elsewhere. dub Temporary suspension set for 30 days. Reactivation will occur on first login after 21/04/2011 7:31:00 AM. Editor: dub

Some time later, after thinking more about the post, I extended the suspension to 60 days.

It's unfortunate that some members are upset by the suspension.

It was warranted and it stands.
