Both are relevant. but future earnings are harder to predict that short term. Everyone will be into milk powder. and you have Blackmores looming on the horizon. See blackmores bucked the trend of nearly all shares on the ASX today and especially China sensitive shares (which BAL, A2M) usually are immune.
Basically we have no data for future earnings. and only data from past few days and predict tomorrows SP movement.
