The move on IG in the last few minutes was (as you noted) due to breakdown out of that little rising wedge, which was alongside but below the bottom of an uptrending channel we'd been in for the last day.
It looked to me that the market was targetting today the bottom of the downward channel (currently at 3400) which we've been in since 28 Jan.
So tonight we either crash down through it (on the 5th attempt!) or otherwise bounce up yet again off the bottom.
