Tiger not changing spots despite back against wall

IT MAY have debt of circa US$220 million and be suspended from trading on the ASX, but Tiger Resources managing director David Frances has been telling shareholders there is still tangible potential for their copper mining company.

Speaking at the company's AGM last month, Frances said Tiger would be a "very strong company" if it could recapitalise and operate with an improved copper price and in a supportive operating environment in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The latter is currently somewhat up in the air with delays on calling the result of the December 30 presidential election causing angst in DRC. However, assuming nothing drastic changes on that front - which could be rash given this is the DRC! - Tiger's priority remains delivery of a life-of-mine production plan that'll get the nod from the company's lenders. One of the key issues with producing the LOM plan is deciding what copper price to use, which has made the task a bit of a "moving feast".

Upside for Tiger includes its 30,000 copper tonnes per annum Kipoi operation being the only processing plant in the region, making it a potential future destination for third party ores. However, a crusher and scrubbing plant will be required additions to the operation to ensure all ore types can be processed.Frances also pointed to the blue sky potential of the geology in the region, with exploration very much falling off the company's radar in recent times given the day-to-day focus on ensuring Tiger is operating on a solvent basis.

After a very tough 2018 - a year in which the potential Chinese buyer of Kipoi Sinomine HK was revealed as a "tyre kicker" - Frances and the owners of Tiger will be very much hopeful of a change in fortune in 2019.
