I heard an interviw with a Qld engineer on ABC radio and he was adamant that the line as currently constructed was flawed. I must say he was very convincing - he said that in France the sleepers were a hand-span apart compared with feet in Qld and that the rail guage was too small - I think he said tracks in France were 6 feet wide.
He claimed to have been predicting such an incident for years and recommended that it never re-open. Unfortunately I didn't catch his name but he seemed very well informed. I don't think I would travel on it.
