WITH dubious iPhone apps now part of the telephonic scenery - artificial flatulence comes to mind - it's about time that someone came up with one for the benefit of humankind.
Isonea (ISN) 0.5c
Isonea comes close with its launch next month of AsthmaSense, a wheeze-monitoring function that is used by applying the phone to the neck. But the real sizzle is in future functions, such as city-by-city pollen alerts and trend data that enables doctors to track warning signs of broader problems. According to chief executive Michael Thomas, 40,000 mobile health apps generated $718m in revenue last year.
One example is a heart reader devised by Silicon Valley company Azumio that generated $15m in revenue in its first 12 months. Isonea currently markets a non-iPhone diagnostic, the Wheezeometer. But at $350-$400 a pop, the six-year-old technology is too expensive for most patients. While there are more than 300 million asthma sufferers in the world, Thomas estimates a ready market of up to five million patients.
...The company is yet to decide on pricing but it is likely to be a subscription model based anywhere between 99c and $5.99 a month. Thomas, who has $300,000 in Isonea, dubs its lowly share price as "criminal". Given management has a long way to go, we're not sure the stock's such a steal.
