An increase in independent’s could push the bigger party’s to lift their game and make a greater effort to regain the voter’s trust?
Another possible outcome could be that if the bigger party’s lose the ability to form a government in their own right and they have to kowtow to enough of these independents we could end up with a “tail wagging the dog” type government.
We could end up like Italy or a few other European countries where they have a wide mix of political ideologies that need to work together to form government.
This would seem to be a good option as in a perfect world good government policies should be agreeable to a wide range of citizens but if we look at the countries that are living this dream, we see that these countries have a revolving door of election’s and leaders.
As I see it we need politicians who are honest and looking to make our country better rather than politicians who are just trying to cause mischief or push a singular issue.
