Iron Mike - the climate experts have consistently predicted more extreme weather. Examples of extreme cold in places like Afghanistan and recently in north America and so on are speculated to be due to the displacement of cold air from the Arctic due to the unusual climatic conditions. Notwithstanding that it is very clear that global average temperatures are still trending up and your observation just proves how little you and most other posters here on HC know about climate science, which is hardly surprising, given you aren't climate scientists.
Also, if you like, I can point you to several references from peer reviewed climate journals that show predictions from as far back as the late 80's, early 90's that Australia will suffer more extreme droughts and more extreme floods (yes, presumably in different regions and at different times) due to increasing global temperatures. Is that too difficult for the Iron One to comprehend?
Neither am I a climate scientist, but I have done plenty of research and I accept their consensus view, so don't even bother trying to give me grief over not being one. I defer to their expert judgement, as you should do. Tim Flannery is not strictly a climate scientist, but he does comment on and refer to the accepted climate science. Unlike the Bolt-heads and Alan Joneses of this world who talk to lobby group mouth-pieces and just make crap up.
Why is this in the politics forum? If I posted this in the politics forum I would be TOU'd ad infinitum. But because it is posted by the HotCopper LCDB (lowest common denominator brigade), you seem to be able to get away with it. Strange but true.
