What I have noticed is that many sceptics are older, often tenured or retiring and learned their "trade" decades ago when there wasn't a convenient scapegoat. They are no longer chasing research grants so are willing/able to look at broader possible causes of weather. Being of that generation, I trust them more than ambitious young scientists without decades in the earth sciences.
