Significantly stronger EPS growth in BHP BHP should earn $US4.20 per share in 2008-09. That equates to 52% earnings per share (EPS) growth over the likely 2007-08 earnings (helped by the Petroleum division growth kicking in at an 80% EBITDA margin). That equates to $4.51 using an exchange rate of US93¢. I believe the market is likely to eventually pay 13 times for those earnings, which equates to a price target of $58.63 for BHP on a pure standalone basis. (On a different topic, how well does that 52% EPS growth stack up against industrials?!
