Yes there is a HUGE difference between a 1 Mw coal plant & a 1 Mw wind or solar.
Which do you want powering the economy & your home.
There is NO solution for covering the gap of the intermittent unpredictable power delivery.
If we had a couple of coal powered power stations going off in 5 times a day we would be up in arms, yet strangely accept that as the norm when it comes to renewable power production.
I guess if you can make you coffee while the sun is shining & don't care it the light comes on at night then all it well with renewables, but O am sure there will a few of us that would find that unacceptable.
Governments now even want to reach into your home & turn off the solar when excess during the day along with charging a fee to export into the grid. To address major drops in operational demand that could compromise grid stability and cause blackouts, the South Aust state government has given the green light to the Australian Energy Market Operator
to switch off its rooftop PV fleet in times of emergency.
Pity they can't ramp solar up at night to meet demand.
