so it ends up buying back their shares and then what? It will then have less money to grow and no guarantee that the share price will be higher anyway. Buy backs usually just put a floor under the price. Besides, if markets turn to crub again then it will just be harder to raise capital if thats needed, and then your in big trouble.
If money has to be burnt then better giving it to shareholders via a cap return. A buy back does little for long term holders apart from improving share structure, better to generate cash flow.
