becoming a republic doesn't necessarily mean cutting ties with Britain. many former colonies have become republics and retain commonwealth membership.
there are many different paradigms that will work better for our nation than maintaining status quo.
it is inevitable that Aus will become a republic... its only a matter of when. At present I don't think their is the popular demand or the political will given there are som many other more important matters that need urgent attention and repair.
