IMO your post correctly challenged what I regard as rather questionable assertions made in farmboy's post which included:
"... A lot of Australians are putting faith in Tony Abbott as leader of the Opposition to address this issue. We are, who we are, and this is thanks to the ANZACS. We don't owe anything to the UN or the rest of the world. ..."

IMO the efforts of our ANZACS [and our armed forces since WW1] was magnificent & remains core to the way we perceive ourselves. However, to downplay the support we have recieved from 'the rest of the world' & create an illusion that our wealth & future is not dependent on our global links is preposterous.

When you dodge a bullet you never feel its impact & IMO Rudd's decision to give over-indebted taxpayers some of their taxes back was one of the reasons Australia only suffered relatively minor GFC flesh wounds. IMO Rudd eased Australians' private debt as a trade-off against public debt. That action appears to have sobered up Australians who have apprently curbed the credit card to repay mortgages etc.

IMO if the actions proposed by Abbott & Co. had been implemented Australia may have sunk into a Depression! We only just dodged the Abbott bullet - thankyou Tony Windsor & Co.
