You said in your eyes they are not illegal immigrants because they have not committed a crime. they are just immigrants,

Immigrants are those people that go through the necessary checks and paperwork in their home country before getting permission and passports/visas etc to leave for Australia legally.
These boat people did nothing like this (maybe the country from where they came didnt have the necessary facilities for this stuff) so therefore they are illegal immigrants.
Get the picture or are your eyes still clouded over.
All your other points are obviously from one who has only had a young persons knowledge/experience.
As for your remark re racist. this seems to be the buzz word lately and has nothing to do with the current situation re these boat people.
I don't know why people bring racism into the debate although it seems to be the favourite word in the dictionary lately.
Some posters even refer to the Aboriginals and also how we came out from the UK in boats a long time ago.
What this has to do with the current boat people fiasco I do not know.
anyway, a lot of these posts have been good for a laugh,in fact some of them should have been in the Humour section.
