I guess it was a pretty major event and only luck coupled with some very skilled pilots (but predominantly luck) that the plane was able to land. So you have a situation that the jet is proven to be faulty and you are at the mercy of RR to find and fix.....it is the same in automotive when it comes to recalls....all cars of a particular model are recalled as the manufacturer is liable
Basically qantas appears to be oversold by shorters with PE of under 10. This is all assuming forecasts are met.....
