I agree with most of what you've written here, but; "If Ukraine stayed neutral and didn't f*ck around to join NATO or EU nothing would've happened." is, imo, incorrect. Putin wants to expand Russia to include all previous USSR territory. he's using NATO as an excuse for the land-grab. the capture of Crimea in 2014 was a prime example and this invasion is further evidence that he is wanting all of Ukraine, Georgia and will not stop there.
