@twouptom; Australia's decision to sign up to AUKUS has massively INCREASED our military / naval threats.
It's no secret that the USA wants Australia to deploy the second-hand subs Aussie taxpayers will fork out $650 Billion for to trouble spots including coastal areas adjacent to Eastern China and both sides of the Sewers Canal.
Add in all the US cyber-spy bases, landing strips and naval bases on the mainland we've already agreed to and our federal governments have made Australia a primary military target.
Three questions matter most:
1. What will those $650 Billion submarines protect that actually matters to Australia?
2. How will governments pay for them: higher taxes on mining companies, higher taxes on wealthy people, higher taxes [ie. above the current level of $0.00] on American corporations, slugging Aussie Battlers yet again, slashing public services ...?
3. How will the 'nuclear accident' risk be managed and where will the waste end up?
