    but there was definitely a Brisbane Line along which the Empire had agreed to sacrifice Australia (and Japanese were the only contenders). It didn't go due west across the country, it went south west down to Adelaide. Amazing really when you look on a map.

    That's what British grand strategists had prepared to give to the Japanese. Lord Kitchener devised it in 1910. And there was Anglo-Japanese alliance from 1902 until sometime in WW2.

    For WW2 Menzies and the Empire stripped Australia of troops sending them to fight Nth Africa and Middle East. And Churchill didn't want to send them back when Japan built up forces in the Malay Peninsula and Curtin demanded.

    Assurances of coming to Australia's defence where always hollow. It was always protect the center of Empire. Anglophilic leaders were always ready to sacrifice Australian interests to favour Empire.

    How very little things appear to have changed.
