    Just musing ...

Over invest in solar/wind based on current economic analysis.

Continue to invest in grid connected residential solar with storage ... and ditto into scaled up versions on commercial and industrial buildings.

Do the Snowy 2 and perhaps the Tassie 2 thing to create storage orders of magnitude bigger and longer delivering than anything possible on a commercial scale from batteries.

Over generation on days the sun shines brightly and widely and the wind blows from coast to coast will happen and without contingency planning is network damaging and disruptive, particularly to the baseload generators that remain.

Fire up the pumps in Snowy 2 and Tassie 2 to soak up over generation gifted to them at throwaway use or lose prices whenever it occurs to recharge the "high dam batteries" ... use those high dam, long life batteries half a day to a day later when needed.

Increased penetration of grid connected residential solar with storage should take a decent clip off the top of peak demand periods, making continuous supply during transitory shortages easier to manage.
