I am not sure how many people are self funded retirees out there
all i know is that in order to be self funded you probably need about $1.5m plus a house or flat paid off
that gives you $60,000 on a return of 7% incorporating indexing for inflation
but I would think that 90% of people are endeavouring to be self funded
nobody wants to hold their hand out to the government and beg for support
however I would say that if you are married then 50% of your assets belong to your wife
if that is the case then, you may still not have enough to be self funded and you may actually be relying on the state to look after you
forget about whether you born with a silver spoon in your mouth (i'd say 80% of people have been given a leg up from their parents at some stage, but they don't like to admit it) or if you have worked hard all your life all that matters is that you can look after yourself and you are not a burden on others that is all I want to do.
