So as a level of expenses you are worse off having to pay up to 3x the running cost to get to your preferred employment... Like I said things are all relative... I doubt you have ever lived in NZ but just visited...For arguments sake.. I like Fishing... if the weather's poor on one coastline, I can always drive an hour and a half and launch the boat on the east coast...
As for your sheep joke... I have one for you Aussies... You have just the same amount of sheep, but you keep yours in the closet... and the Australians did invent the condom from the intestines of a sheep, but it took the kiwis to remove the intestine from the sheep first...

I'm not sure what you mean by travel further to get to your preferred employment.
Now surely the distance an Australian travels by car to get to their preferred employment is less than the distance New Zealanders travel to Australia by plane to find preferred employment? ..... or any employment.... as there's nothing going on in NZ.
