The reopening will be done in 3 phases:
Phase 1 – 1st of January to 31st of March
Phase 2 – 1st of April to 30th of June
Phase 3 – 1st of July onwards
.Eligible Travelers:Travellers from the following countries will be able to visit Laos in Phase 1 of the reopening. The list is expected to be extended in later phases.China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, USA, Canada, Australia, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, Israel, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, New Zealand, Poland, Denmark, and Belgium.Tourism will be restricted to tours arranged through tour companies under the Lao Green Zone Programme. Independent travellers who do not travel using a tour company will not be permitted in the first phases of the reopening.
Destinations that can be visited:In Phase 1
travellers will be able to visit the following destinations:Green Zone (I) – Vientiane Capital, Luang Prabang Province and Vang Vieng district of Vientiane Province.After 3 days in the Green Zone travellers can continue to destinations on the Green Trail:Green Trail (I) – Oudomxay, Xayaboury, Xieng Khouang, Khammouane and Champasak Provinces.
In Phase 2
travellers will be able to visit the following destinations:Green Zone (II) – Vientiane Capital, Luang Prabang, Vientiane, Oudomxay, Xayaboury, Xieng Khouang, Khammouane, Champasak and Savannakhet Provinces.After 3 days in the Green Zone travellers can continue to destinations on the Green Trail:Green Trail (II) – Houay Xay district of Bokeo Province, Luang Namtha, Sekong and Salavanh ProvincesIn Phase 3 it is expected that the rest of the country will open up and internal travel restrictions will be minimal.International Entry/Exit pointsIn Phase 1, only 2 entry/exit points will be in use:– Wattay International Airport (VTE) in Vientiane– Nong Khai – Vientiane Friendship BridgeIn Phase 2, additional entry/exit points will be added to the 2 from Phase 1:Luang Prabang International Airport (LPQ)Boten (Laos-China)Thakhek Friendship Bridge (Laos-Thailand)Savannakhet Friendship Bridge (Laos-Thailand)Chongmek (Pakse-Ubon) Checkpoint (Laos-Thailand)Lao Bao Checkpoint (Laos-Vietnam)Lak Sao Checkpoint (Laos-Vietnam)
All other entry/exit points are expected to reopen in Phase 3.
