In the tall nest of Government where big birds
are caged
There was strife as never before
Both the Hawke and the Peacock were greatly enraged
And they ruffled their feathers for war.
“Friend Hawke” said the Peacock,
“With truth I can say
That as leader your efforts are lax
For you eat up the eggs that the little birds lay,
In the form of a new income tax.
The pigeons and the gulls with great hunger grow thin
While the vultures and crows feast at will
In the coming election you can’t hope to win
And my followers squawk for a kill.”
Said the Hawke, “My friend Peacock,
your words I gainsay
You are misinformed, I can see
For the smart birds in their nest-eggs have
hidden away
And to find them a hard job ‘twill be.
These shrewd cunning birds are aware we are lost
So their assets I feel I must freeze
For their valuable eggs would soon cover the cost
Of our perilous fights overseas.”
So the argument raged like a storm for a week
While the lesser birds all bashed their lugs
Then down flew the Heron, a fish in the his beak
And said “Hey, pull together, you mugs.”
A sinister reptile is stalking you hard
He has been in the news every day
And for birds of importance he shows no regard
He advances intending to slay.
He is called the Goanna, true birds trust him not
Please forget your remarks so unkind
He will smile when he places you both in a spot
And the small birds new leaders will find.
Pull together and lead in a fight to success
‘Ere our industry stops to a walk
And our wonderful country gets in a sad mess
Please co-operate, Peacock and Hawke.”

How pertinent 24 years down the track.
That last line could very well be Simgrund and Seamisty.
The PIF saga allegories above bring heaps of Mirth, mentions of eggs, possibly scrambled; pulling together implorations; “vultures and crows feast at will”.
Anywhere you read, senses lead to PIF chronology of discord midst the troops that did not “pull together”.
The opportunities lost; something to mull over on the trip just about to begin for me.
At least the satisfaction from ASIC’s upcoming dissection by Parliamentary Committee mitigates somewhat this disappointment.
Has ANYBODY entertained any thoughts on our Submissions for this Inquiry due early next year?
Adios, my fellow pirch-ers, hang in there. Will post trip updates.
