My favourite is this comment from a former HDC councillor who says:

"You are mistaken in thinking that councillors or Mayor make decisions on things like this. Only those who are qualified to sit on RMA hearings can do this. The only Paeroa councillor who is qualified is Paul Milner. By declaring himself against mining in the Karangahake he has disqualified himself as you have to approach any decision on RMA matters with an open mind, listen to the evidence and make a decision accordingly."
