timeline of events

Shortly after the KCCG meeting 27th July 2010 I posted regarding the Timeline of Events. This was a full page document prepared by Dorothy Pratt and attached to other documents/statements which were stapled together & circulated to all who attended that meeting. In it she listed the various dates & levels of contamination but she did not indicate what the individual reading were i.e., Benzene or Toluene.

The day before the August meeting I received a copy of "Prattles" which is a quarterly magazine distributed to DP's constituents. In the magazine was the Timeline of Events still showing 45ppb & 84ppb etc.

The following night at the meeting of the KCCG I grew tired of the smoke & mirrors & asked John Bradley (head of DERM) what was the highest proven level of Benzene recorded at a monitoring bore at the Cougar site. I said that Cougar claims the highest level is 2ppb & that the highest level 84ppb was in fact a laboratory error which had been accepted by DERM. I then said "who are we supposed to believe - you or the the company as I feel we (the citizens) are being mislead. Incredulously, Bradley could not tell me - yet he is the top dog at DERM & it was he who ordered Cougar's pilot plant be shut down. Anyway Bradley looked to others for support & finally another DERM officer came to his aid & I'm fairly certain she said 2ppb. I was difficult to hear from where I was sitting.

I then switched my line of questioning to Dorothy Pratt. She said "Oh, I didn't know" & "I didn't have time to change it before it was sent to print". She was looking around from assistance reminiscent of the "Yes Minister" story she had in the "Prattles" magazine about minister Stephen Roberston.

To cut a long story short, I have since pursued the issue with DP & she has now sent me an amended copy of the Timeline of Events. It is still incorrect & very misleading in my opinion. The only changes she made were as follows:-

28/04/10 45ppb @ Bore 38 DERM info - amended to read

28/04/10 45ppb @ Burn Chamber DERM info

& the entry for 29/06/10 84ppb @ Bore DERM info amended to read

29/06/10 84ppb @ Burn Chamber DERM info.

The above dates have a red dot against them which indicates "EXCEEDENCE".

The only information finding its way onto the chart that DP has prepared & circulated should be limited to the monitoring bores. Any references to the burn chamber are not exceeedences & are totally misleading & should be deleted.

There is no reference to the Australian Standards for either Benzene or Toluene ie. 1ppb Benzene & 800ppb Toluene. Further, she does not indicate whether the exceedance was Benzene or Toluene which I feel is deliberate so as to further her own & the KCCG cause.

You really need to see this document to fully understand it & to see how it could mislead & cause angst in the local community. I will attempt to upload it as part of this post. I hope it works out ok, then you can bombard DP with your disgust & horror as to the mis-representation of facts.
