    My understanding is that the insurer's and 'medicare' equivalent are happy to cover the cost of the scans because there is a net financial benefit to them by identifying patients that were 'slipping through the cracks' so to speak. If your AS wasn't diagnosed you may end up needing treatment (heart surgery for example) in the future at a great cost to the insurer. Early detection and intervention can prevent the condition worsening over time and will result in less claims in the future and hence financial improvement to the insurers bottom line. The tech should save lives too so you can keep paying your premium. This is my limited understanding and you should confirm for yourself.
