You most likely had too much.
People are often irresponsible when giving friends some to try for the first time. Mostly inadvertently. I've seen it happen so many times that someone is given way too much and they feel sick and dislike it.
My mother-in-law has only ever drunk alcohol once for the same reason.
If you ever try again, have a tenth of what your friend(s) are having and see how you go. If it doesn't do anything have another tenth and so on until you feel an effect. As soon as you feel an effect, stop and don't consume more. You'll likely have a much better time. Try to do it in a comfortable, private environment too, rather than out on the town or an unfamiliar place.
Even when I've been using regularly I can have too much and get "The Ghosty" on an empty stomach and especially if I'm dehydrated. Ten minute lie down with a fan blowing at me and I'm fine again.
It's like any drug. People need to find the right dose to suit them personally.
