Your argument is logical regarding making a good announcement to catch the weekend newspapers. However MBP are also arranging a number of other thing including listing on the US market, preparing presentations and possibly roadshows. A technical and non-technical report (for brokers) needs to be written. They would also be organising presentation packs for other drug companies. I don't know if two days would be enough time to do all this. They would be aiming for maximum impact by releasing the lot together.
It could be argued that they should have had these ready in a near-finished format and can just insert the results. However, if it was me I would be considering it bad luck to arrange these things before you know the results.
