Lol, DoD have taken a decade to get this far, give 'em a little breathing space!

Seriously, AL made it quite clear HRE separation will go ahead, important strategically to support Japanese mag makers with total ex China supply chain, that's been reinforced in spades, and to be able to realise on Duncan Dy/Tb via separation of the SEG/HRE stream.

US decision making goes WAY beyond simply awarding relatively tiny $40M funding towards LRE & HRE process, they need to find the right formula to make a total supply chain viable in the US, and most likely attract a Japanese mag maker to expand there.

Given Hitachi just abandoned its base there it probably has to be a Japanese mag maker NOT operating under Hitachi license.

USG needs to establish a policy framework that allows domestic manufacture to compete profitably with Chinese made NdFeB before an upstream supply chain will be viable.

Regardless Lynas will develop the HRE separation capacity to service the Japanese mag makers, and potentially the Germans.
