Qld near Fraser Is and Hervey Bay . The foreshore stretches for kilometers - a beautiful walk. In the far distance; Fraser Is.

Not yet nesting season but two galahs seemed determined not to lose this hollow.

Wonderful music from the Whistling Kite, long before spotted.

Well, sort of wild. Never seen an outboard used as a letterbox before.

High up in a gumtree, thought I had spotted a strange oozing of "gum". On closer look on the puter, looks more like an imbedded electrical insulator and there is a strange cylindrical item below. Any guesses?

Bath time for an Ibis in a stagnant pool.

The next morning it was onto the dolphin feed and talk. They have been feeding dolphins here since the 50's. It started when an injured dolphin (Australian Humpback Dolphin; an estuary dolphin that doesn't go to sea) came into the cove and was looked after by the local residents. It eventually healed, went away, and then came back with the clan. And has been doing ever since. Of course the gov't stepped in and regs are tight as to what happens here. There were 4 adults on the day and two bubbies. Unfortunately it was low tide and a bit murky so most of my photos were a bit blah; and then the battery died!! The team knew them all by name and knew the life cycles of them all. Fascinating!
But of course, with all this free food there will always be hangers on. Reminds me of a political party or two......

This friendly cormorant sat poised, just waiting for an opportunity. Twice I saw it swoop in and take a fish out of a feeder's hand, within inches of the dolphins nose. I really liked that it was in silhouette; the menace of it all.

And this sweetie. He, she, it, wandered amongst us all; stood at the gate to the "kitchen" where fish was being parceled out; begging to be given a feed. A Pied Cormorant, this birdie had no fear of the humans walking around just inches away.

    A great weekend away. jwt
