Mr Lawrence of Beyond Zero Emissions said, “While we understand the need for aluminium, we strongly believe that the Anglesea and wider region should not be exposed to the associated brown coal mine pollution. As a collective of environmental and health stakeholders, we are meeting with Alcoa to state our position clearly in relation to the current and future Alcoa operations in Anglesea. In the lead up to the lease renewal, Alcoa must commit to a swift and decisive transition toward a sustainable energy source to power their Point Henry Plant. We will continue to lobby Alcoa on behalf of the community.”
