Incidentally the Zimbabwe CB is talking about bringing the gold standard in that country so that they can retain their ZWD and whilst I wouldn't want to argue the points of an extremist regime - it is an interesting turn of events.

Yes, they are trading gold for essentials. My point is. Even in Zimbabwe, a bar of gold buys you roughly the same amount of bread as it does in Tokyo, give or take a small difference that really is insignificant compared to the levels of inflation.
