1. In Zimbabwe people are panning for gold and trading it for essentials like bread. Incidentally the Zimbabwe CB is talking about bringing the gold standard in that country so that they can retain their ZWD and whilst I wouldn't want to argue the points of an extremist regime - it is an interesting turn of events.
Yes, they are trading gold for essentials. My point is. Even in Zimbabwe, a bar of gold buys you roughly the same amount of bread as it does in Tokyo, give or take a small difference that really is insignificant compared to the levels of inflation.
