I am trying to work out what the hell "high-density computational services" are.
I entered IT in 1967 , and used Fortran to simulate a guided weapon system with punch cards and line printers - no disk space, no vdus, just reams of paper for the engineer to study. And it worked until being replaced sometime this century. Would you believe I met an engineer at a Xmas do , and , thinking it was ancient history I mention the secret project code! He was working on that very project code (and code + 1, which was a modification to the Mach 3 missile to make it turn faster). Such a small world?

In my next job I used machine code , which, after Fortran , was a joy but harder work. In the days of tiny computer memories, Plan (ICL) and Macro-11 (Digital) , allowed more creative thinking.

Modern machines with gigabytes and terabytes and fibre optics are light years away from the 600 baud telephone lines I was used to between Bournemouth (PDP-11) and Dorchester (ICL mainframes). DIsks were up to 30 Mb , even on the main frame. Too small to have backups of our biggest files on the same drive. We used Mag. Tape for backups! In those days TV made the public think that a computer was tape drives ....
