Tiresias: Repose Interrupted

My friends,

Tiresias had just begun his repose in the Asklepieion, communing with the gods, when a disturbance broke his meditations. Eris, she of the golden apple of **, was loosed. Tiresias had been happy to let Optiscan continue without him. He had no intention of posting so soon. But maybe Eris and her acolytes, the mindless Erinyes, felt emboldened by his absence. Tiresias could not let some of the “comments” on Hot Copper pass without retort. There have been two major events for Optiscan, events which are so obviously positive that Tiresias would have thought required no interpretation. But, after having, what passes off for commentary, which Tiresias interprets as trolling, being pointed out to him, Tiresias felt the need to call these out, and call them out in terms he would not normally use.

Tiresias knows, his friends, those who do not have blindness of the mind, know and understand. However, for those who suffer from Anton’s Syndrome (blindness with lack of insight into their condition that they deny their blindness), Tiresias is obliged to explain what he considered obvious and self-evident. So, my dear trolls, Tiresias, who has infinite patience and forbearance has been tested. Really you few, really gentlemen, do you need to display your vitriol, your bile, and most of all your ignorance. But enough of Tiresias’s venting.

Let us turn to the two important facts that have come to the fore this week; the publication, “Intraoperative Laser Endomicroscopy: prospective in vivo feasibility study of a clinical-grade system for brain tumors” by Abramov et al... This is a seminal paper which confirms all that Tiresias has predicted. This confirms that the revolution and transformation of cancer histopathology in surgery and diagnosis has arrived. This paper shows that real-time in-vivo digital histopathology is not just replacing frozen section but is superior and in every way. Instead of a few images of a squashed piece of tissue, scrambled under a light microscope, that is frozen section biopsy, CLE done intraoperatively on 30 patients, allowed 10,000+ images, in 335 regions, with high correlation with the gold-standard post-mortem ex-vivo post-fixed 3-week delayed pathology. This is inconceivable with the current standard and given that there has been no improvement in the survival of malignant brain tumour in the last 60 years, further delays in the introduction of Optiscan’s CLE to this field is bordering on the unethical and the negligent. Tiresias would have let this pass and remained in the Asklepieion, had it not been for the second event, the share transfer, and in particular the quality of some of the comments on this.

Who are these people? They obviously know nothing except bile and vitriol. What are you gentleman [sic] “thinking”? On the last few times Tiresias has mention OIL price action, has talked the overhang of stock held by the previous management. He does not need to comment of how some of this stock had been obtained. So, in one fell swoop, this overhang of stock is now cleared. The stock has gone from weak holders, who have obviously been selling down, to the strongest hands, and will not be offered on the market. A good thing for us the long term-shareholder? Of course! It’s self-evident. So, what commentary do we get? Just to mention one peon; “money laundering”! What? This is the best thing that can happen for Optiscan’s shares; you absolute pion. The big overhang has cleared. The stock price can start to breathe. Just see it for what it is. No need for any paranoid delusions here. So please let Tiresias rest. He doesn’t want to stir from his dreams to admonish the ignorance that seems to be loosed upon us, at least not immediately.

Tiresias is now returning to the sleep, to slumber and dream his dreams comfortable in the knowledge of the fundamentals of the technology and comfortable in the understanding of the share transactions. For Zeus’s sake, and Tiresias’s peace, please grow up.
