there are a lot of investors (traders) who just buy into IPOs expecting an initial jump. these are typically shortish term holders so if the share price doesn't go up then they will likely sell and take the loss on fear it's going to keep dropping... just check fintwit land and you will see some prominent (P&D?) examples.
