When we built Wheatstone there was a smaller plant built for domestic supply - i think 15% of WA gas was supposed to go into the Domestic market.
Right now the calls are very loud that domestic gas is an issue re-guaranteeing supply... also Bass Strait offshore are starting decommissioning of some of the offshore rigs.
So consider this.... - transmission from Elliott to MASDP - large scale solar & batteries - Supply enough 24/7 electricity to shift Darwin LNG & Inpex (Japanese ownership) from Gas Turbines to renewables. - the freed up gas could either be repurposed for domestic use or eliminate the need for an additional LNG faciliity at Middle Arm - the main point of contention for MASDP from almost all sides during the Senate imquiry.
The other thing this would do is demonstrate that solar/wind plus batteries in a fossil fuel application can be done. This impact of this sort of precedent can not be understated.
