It was all contingent on NATO winning in Ukraine. As the US and UK run out weapons to supply and as their systems are being beaten by Russian electronic warfare, including patriot systems, what effect will this have on whatever politicians will do next? Why should they be expected to continue with new deal nonsense when they are losing a large scale war?
