From an old friend on another forum.
A little update on the local page in Lulea. As you can read below every household in Lulea receives this newsletter. So nobody can claim not to know that Talga is the first. Here we go -> under construction06. November
"Talga first out on the new part of Luleå Industrial Park
The work to establish new industry at Luleå Industrial Park has begun.
The first of the new operations is Talga, which has started the construction of Europe's first battery anode factory at the Hertsö field.
Talga's plant at Hertsöfältet will be powered entirely by renewable energy, making it one of the most sustainable battery anode factories in the world.
Luleå Industrial Park is the place where industrial investments of up to SEK 70 billion will be realized. This is where the new green industrial revolution will take place, establishing new climate-smart technology that will dramatically reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Talga has started construction of Europe's first battery anode factory that will convert natural graphite from the mine in Vittangi into anode material for electric car batteries. Next in line to build on the Hertsö field is Duroc rail, which maintains railway wheels and recently received a building permit.
The construction phase of Talga's production facility is expected to create hundreds of jobs. The plant will also be powered entirely by renewable energy, making it one of the most sustainable battery anode factories in the world – and a significant part of the green transition in Norrbotten.
"Luleå has a unique opportunity to be a world leader in the green transition and contribute to a world that is not dependent on fossil fuels," says Robert Eriksson, Project Manager for Luleå Industrial Park.
"Luleå Industrial Park will be the place where several industries gather, industries that with their production contribute to making Sweden and the EU self-sufficient in important raw materials and products. The proximity to the Port of Luleå, Luleå Airport and Luleå University of Technology is a great advantage, says Eriksson.

There is perhaps still a certain skepticism among some who remember Stålverk 80, the 80's industrial investment that did not happen. But without that investment, Luleå would not have had the same conditions to create the industrial cluster within the green transition that is now underway, says Robert Eriksson, who today can give a thought of gratitude to the investment that lasted so long that a large area of industrial land, the Hertsö field, had time to be built.
"Without this industrial land, we wouldn't have had all these establishments, so it can be seen as a bit of a belated revenge for the work that was done here for Stålverk 80," he says.
LKAB, SSAB, Fertiberia and Uniper will also build climate-smart industries at Luleå Industrial Park. LKAB will extract rare earth elements and phosphorus, SSAB will build a new fossil-free steel mill, Fertiberia will build a fertilizer factory and Uniper a hydrogen plant. At the time of writing, permit processes and detailed planning work are in progress for all of them, and it is therefore not possible to say when the industrial projects can be fully underway.
"It's a matter of major investments, both financially and in terms of personnel. Around SEK 70 billion and up to 1,500 new jobs in the industry, plus all the ancillary effects that create even more jobs," says Robert Eriksson and continues:
"The challenges lie in the fact that a lot has to happen quickly and preferably at the same time. Permit processes, detailed development plans, and expanded infrastructure around power supply as well as roads and railways are crucial.

FACTS
- The article above is part of the magazine Vårt Luleå issue 3, 2023, which goes out to all households in Luleå.The theme of the current issue is social transformation.
- Luleå Industrial Park consists of the existing industrial area on Svartön and the new Hertsö field. Several industries are in the process of establishing themselves and in order to coordinate the needs of the industries in the area during the construction phase, there is the Luleå Industrial Park project, which is run by Luleå Municipality.
- The industrial area at Hertsöfältet is about 70 hectares, an area the size of 140 football pitches. The proximity to other facilities, the port and the railway means that Luleå Industrial Park is optimally located."

So we see that the project manager from the industrial park is right and we can build and that the double loop in the tendering process affects the municipality itself, but not us. So no delay here.
