I think VFRBs are a better option for stationary storage. (For the sake of open disclosure I do have vanadium shares in Australia)
They can charge and discharge simultaneously - useful with renewables.
They aren't fussed if they are fully discharged.
They lose less capacity with time/use cf Li.
The electrolyte can be recycled.
They don't catch fire.
They do cost more up front, but they last longer.
Li batteries are a better option for vehicles and small applications hands down.
