There was a webinar/meeting 2 days ago about LKAB's Hybrit green steel project - https://www.argusmedia.com/news/2218761-green-steel-projects-need-swifter-authorisation-hybrit?amp=1
Participants were Ibrahim Baylan - Minister of Trade and Industry, Per Bolund - Minister of the Environment and Climate, Martin Lindqvist, CEO of SSAB - Jan Moström, CEO of LKAB Anna Borg, CEO of Vattenfall.
"Hybrit is currently building a pilot hydrogen storage facility in Lulea for completion in the first half of 2022, and intends to complete a pilot hydrogen and direct reduced iron (DRI) plant in Jallivare by 2026. "Our greatest challenge is not to have the ability to develop and build the plant, but to get all the necessary permits in order to actually build it," said Jan Mostrom, chief executive of mining and minerals group LKAB. Sweden's minister for trade and industry Ibrahim Baylan agreed that it would make sense to boost the funding of local authorities in the north of the country to better equip them to deal with planning proposals from energy companies, steelmakers and miners. "Local authorities struggle to have the competence and capacity required to deal with these issues," said Mostrom."
Erika Ingvald- Head of Division, Mineral Information and Mining Industry, Swedish Geological Society (SGU) said "Many wise things are said in this webinar, things that concern the whole energy and climate change. One of the most important contributions to us authorities comes from the Minister of the Environment, who says that we must support companies when they make their applications."
This is great for Talga. The permitting process is starting to get a lot more focus and they are starting to realise they need to act and support applications if these projects are going to come to fruition. The webinar was posted to youtube but my Swedish isn't great...
