That's basically what stop-loss hunting is (you're just adding the extra step of panicking after the drop rather than having pre-set the exit price).
It's not non-sense. It's a regular tactic for whales operating in low-volume trade environments. However, it is usually marked by a quick rebound in the SP, because the entire point is to scoop the discounted shares before someone else does. We will see how the next 24 hours shape-up, but stop-loss hunting doesn't fit as the explanation based on what we've seen so far.
