Interesting, in Roskill article it's stated that for synthetic you need more than 12,000 kwh/t of electricity. To put this in perspective if a car battery has 60 kg of graphite, then it used 720 kWh of electricity, that is roughly for 4,000 km worth of electricity or around 2% of the lifetime Kilometers of a car.
My point? No one is dependent on natural graphite resources, if they don't develop them, tough luck, EVs will have a little more emissions (like 2%) in their life cycle, and a little more cost (like +0.5%).
Talga is competing on price point and quality, but it will be tough for them to justify any environmental impacts of the mine, they will have to go by the book, no shortcuts.
