I think we will transition. A day late, after suffering needlessly, causing dramatic migrations from todays current shores, we will adapt and survive. Just like coronavirus: the tech will be there, and half of the population will buy in, maybe even 70%. The other 30% will have to be compelled, kicking and screaming, to do the right thing. All the while they will resent "being told what to do", like little children. Likewise some similar percentage of corporations, chasing their profits at the expense of the government, aided and abetted by cronies in governments across the world, will drag their feet. Maybe no everywhere, but yes, in many places.

A day late and a dollar short for the 2 degree target, but on time to prevent true catastrophe.
