The natural history of graphite is a amazing story, having studied a bit in the Pilbara Craton where earliest rocks and signs of bacterial life are on still observable.
In fact most of Australia’s iron ore comes from this Great Oxidation Event. The Cyanobacteria in the early oceans bonded the soluble iron with oxygen, today we’re trying to get rid of that oxygen from the iron to make steel by using carbon, duh! LKAB/ SSAB fixing that.
