Might be even longer, i agree with your assessment.
there is a stretch of porous Autobahn Asphalt close to Braunschweig on the A2 in Germany. It's there 12 years at least and it's fantastic. In rain, you have all that spray water from other vehicles. Visibility is always poor. When you drive onto the porous part, it's like driving through a curtain.. the spray suddenly stopps. Despite it being so great, i have not seen it anywhere else ever.
simply because stuff is great doesn't mean it's used.
